After their successful first branch in Dunaharaszti, the owners of Kaffa opened their second café in May, this time, in Budapest.
The location is absolutely amazing, being right by the side of the Opera. They have outdoor seating for the sunny summer days: you can take a table, or if you're lucky, snatch the bench with the cutest striped pillows by the window.
Although their coffee is divine, you'll find way more than just good coffee in Kaffa.
As a lot of other specialty cafés in Budapest, they also sell coffee beans, coffee making equipment, teas, healthy breakfast items. You'll also find their mugs on the shelves (which I'm already eyeing) and even dried (and sometimes fresh) florals underneath.
On the menu you'll find all the typical coffee variations you might expect in a specialty café. During my first visit, I went for the cappuccino (950 HUF). To me, it's the perfect ratio of coffee and milk, and ordering it everywhere makes comparing cafés much easier.
Make sure to follow them on Instagram to get some inspiration for your next order.
They just have "Matcha latte" written on their menu —but I knew from Instagram to order the raspberry iced matcha latte that everyone was getting. And boy was it a good idea! It's made with real raspberries and it's absolutely divine.
"Would you like your coffee from light or dark roast?"
We loved that they asked this question when we went to order. The second time around I visited the café with my husband, who, unlike me, prefers a dark roast.
This way we could both happily sip coffee we loved, without having to think about asking about the beans they have in the grinders that day.
Did you know that Kaffa.Opera has their own confectionary workshop? That's where all the cakes and pastries are made.
Let me tell you, it was not an easy decision, trying to choose what to try, when everything looked so so good.
In the end, I went for their pistachio raspberry croissant (1200 HUF) and I'm still thinking about it to this day. The croissant was the perfect size, light, fluffy, yet still buttery. And the filling? It's what raspberry pistachio dreams are made of. Yum.
It's been open for just over a week but I already know it's going to be one of my absolute favourite cafés in Budapest. So if you're in the city centre craving a good cup of coffee, I highly recommend visiting Kaffa.Opera.
My next order: iced tea
It doesn't sound too exciting, does it? But last time I was there, I saw them serve an iced, dual-toned drink to someone. It looked so good I had to ask what it was. Turns out it was an iced tea, with orange juice at the bottom.
